Integrating sounds and audio into lessons can make it more interesting and is also beneficial to students whose learning modality is auditory in nature. An easy to use programme that can facilitate this is AUDACITY.
AUDACITY is an audio editor and recorder that can be used on Windows, MAC OSX, GNU/LINUX and other operating sustems. AUDACITY can copy, cut and mix sounds together, change the speed or pitch of a recording, convert tapes and records into digital recordings and CDs and record live audio through a microphone and mixer. The programme can also edit MP3, WAV and AIFF sound files.
In the classroom it can be used to personalize lessons by cutting, mixing and editing songs that you wish to incorporate in your lesson. All you need is a computer, the AUDACITY programme and the songs you want to use. It is fun and easy to use and students will enjoy it.
I think that AUDACITY is a great programme that can harness a teacher's creativity in the classroom. According to the class and age level of the students, they too can be given projects to do and experiment with. This will aid in the development of their own creativity and attention to detail. Added to this they will enjoy doing it.
However, there are limitations that may prevent the integration of this programme in the classroom such as lack of resources.
